New COVID-19 Entry Requirements For Traveling to Thailand, January 2023
Based on several reports it looked like Thailand was going to implement new regulations for air travelers entering the country in an effort to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. These requirements would then apply to individuals over the age of 18 and include presenting either a vaccination certificate or a doctor's letter indicating recovery from COVID-19 within the last 6 months.
If they implemented this, the vaccination certificate must verify receipt of 2 shots of a vaccine approved by the Thai Food and Drug Administration. Or doctor's letter must confirm a negative COVID-19 test result and full recovery from the illness within the past 6 months. Individuals traveling from countries with measures in place to prevent the return of COVID-positive individuals must also have health insurance covering COVID treatment for the duration of their stay in Thailand.
This requirement would not apply to Thai passport holders or transit passengers. Airlines are responsible for verifying the necessary documents for travelers.
They also mentioned that mask use might also become mandatory during air travel, with exceptions made for eating and emergencies. Passengers exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms during travel may be required to take a test upon arrival.
UPDATE: Travelers will not be required to show proof of 2 vaccine shots after all, as stated in Bangkok Post on January 9th, 2023.
